Max III Josef was the elector who brought the golden age to Bavaria. Through his love of peace and social commitment, he reformed the law and taxation system and encouraged elementary school education. In this setting, the fine arts flourished. Dedicated to the rococo style, Nymphenburg Castle was extended to its present glory. With his great passion for music, Max III Joseph not only was a good violin and
gamba-player but also a composer.
His Stabat Mater in C minor (1766) is presented here, together with works by Leopold and son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, two frequent guests at the Bavarian court.
