Princess Sophie of Hanover and her daughter, Sophie Charlotte, queen of Prussia, were very close as regards their passion for philosophy, music and art, architecture and horticulture. Their musical courts, Charlottenburg and Herrenhausen, were cultural centres of baroque. Thus Leibniz frequented both courts, and operas by Agostino Steffani were performed at both locations. Corelli's concertos and Georg Friedrich Handel's Water Music were performed in the park grounds.
