The Herrenchiemsee Castle is an expression of Ludwig's admiration of the French Sun King, Louis XIV, whose successor he imagined himself to be. In the unrestricted translation of his fantasies, far removed from reality of his time, he created a perfect copy of the court in Versailles. A painting in the castle depicts the performance of the opera "Acis and Galathea" by Jean B. Lully, court composer of the Sun King,
great master of French baroque music and Molière's congenial partner. On the CD: excerpts from his works, the music of his student, Marin Marais and François Couperin
