Ludwig I filled the constitutional monarchy with life like no other. He extended Munich to become a Residence, which by no means needed to hide from comparison in Germany. Evidence of the interplay between art, music and politics is particularly presented by the Court and National Theatre. German opera was promoted in order to support the national identity. Under regency of Ludwig I, Beethoven's "Fidelio", Weber's "Oberon" and "Freischütz", Gluck's "Iphigenie in Aulis", Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" and many other operas were performed.
